Capsule Wardrobe Step 3 Pick Your Accent Color
I hope you are enjoying your capsule wardrobe journey with me! To see all the steps so far, you can click on The Capsule Wardrobe tag on my menu under fashion. I have completed the first two steps: purging my closet (oh how freeing!) and choosing my neutrals. My wardrobe in the past has been all over the place, filled with random bits of this and that. It definitely needed some guidance and I found the French Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe was just what I was looking for. It was based around all neutrals: black, white, gray, beige, and chambray. It doesn’t really call for an accent color.
I was perfectly fine with not having an accent color. I like the way all the neutrals work seamlessly together. The capsule wardrobe comes with a list of recommended items. Many of the items I already had in my closet, but for those that I didn’t I created a shopping list in my to-do app. That way any time I was out and about, I could look for items on my list. One of the items was a white peplum top. I knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted a soft t-shirt type top with a peplum-ish bottom.
While shopping at Marshall’s, I found it. The perfect peplum top in the perfect accent color, a soft blush pink! The top is Jones of New York and it was exactly what I was looking for. And with that, I have an accent color! And guess what, I saw that the Spring 2017 French Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe had blush pink as one of it’s colors!
In choosing your accent color, I suggest you look at your closet. What colors have you been drawn to in the past? Or maybe you want your accent color to be something trendy for the season. Choose a few solid and patterned tops and bottoms with your accent color. So, by now you have purged your closet, have a set of neutral basics and now you have some pretty accent colors. Aren’t you loving how it’s all coming together?!
Let’s talk about what I’m wearing today. I am basing this on Outfit #93 from the French Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe Summer 2017. You can see that my soft blush peplum top makes a perfect substitute for the white peplum. It will be just as versatile! I liked the clean neckline and didn’t want the weight of a necklace to weigh down the light top. I paired it with my Lee Modern Series Dream Jeans and Jasmine sling backs.
