Chamomile and Pear make a delicate infused vodka. Post may contain affiliate links.
One of the easiest ways to add some flair to your cocktails is with infusions. They are usually really easy, with time doing most of the work. I have a huge list of infusions I want to try, but when I saw pears on sale, this chamomile-pear infused vodka moved to the top of the list. Since it is getting towards that time of the year, I was paging through Winter Cocktails: Mulled Ciders, Hot Toddies, Punches, Pitchers, and Cocktail Party Snacks for some ideas, and settled on their infusion section.
There were several others that are on my list: Serrano-Lime Infused Tequila and Celery-Black Pepper Infused Vodka both sound wonderful. I found the dried chamomile flowers at Earth Fare, but you can get them online, Frontier Chamomile Flowers, German Whole Certified Organic, 16 Ounce Bag.
Whenever I am doing small batch infusions (I almost always cut the recipes in half), I try to find a new-to-me vodka. This time I decided to try Picker’s Vodka from Tennessee. They had a blood orange infused vodka that sounded wonderful and I am definitely going to give it a try, but for my infusion I settled on their plain vodka.
This makes a delicate, interesting flavored vodka. You pick up the chamomile much more than the pear. I think next time I will use less chamomile. It’s still good, but I’d like to taste more of the pear.
- 1/2 cup dried chamomile flowers (edible grade) - or less
- 1 pear, peeled and diced
- 1/2 bottle (375 ml) of vodka
- Place the flowers, pears and vodka in a 1 quart glass jar. Place the lid on it and shake it. Store in a cool dark place for 3-5 days shaking the jar a couple of times a day. Begin tasting on day 3 to see if the strength is as you desire. Strain through a fine mesh strainer into another jar.
- Infused liquor will keep indefinitely.
