The Hibiscus Collins is a gin cocktail perfect for any time you want a pretty and delicious cocktail!
Before I begin this blog post, I have to take a moment to pat myself on the back. I set out to make the perfect Mother’s Day Cocktail, like this Hibiscus Collins, and actually post it before Mother’s Day and I did! This is a miracle. I am usually the one coming up with something two weeks after the holiday I planned to make it for. It’s even more astounding when you realize that it’s in the middle of prom season and I am a professional photographer who does prom photos. In the past three weeks, I have taken photos for over 20 couples! That’s a lot of teenage skin to clean up in photoshop! Though truthfully, it hasn’t been too rough this year. Is it just me, or does each generation get more and more gorgeous?!
Anyway back to this cocktail. I created the Hibiscus Simple Syrup from a few weeks ago with the intention of using it in a pretty cocktail for Mother’s Day. I wanted to create a basic cocktail that would let the soft floral flavor to be present. I am currently reading The Twelve Bottle Bar. I love it because it is taking me through the progression of the cocktail. How with just a few ingredient changes you can create a multitude of cocktails.
Like this Hibiscus Collins. It’s basically a sour with the addition of some sparkling water. Which by the way, I can’t say enough good things about my Soda Stream. I recycle the Co2 cartridges at Best Buy and make my own sparkling water for way less money than store bought. Which also reminds me that you can turn this into a mocktail by simply omitting the gin. You end up with a sparkling hibiscus soda. So delicious.
- 2 ounces gin
- 1 ounce fresh lime juice
- 1 ounce Hibiscus Simple Syrup
- Sparkling water
- Fill a cocktail shaker half way with ice. Add gin, lime juice and hibiscus simple syrup. Shake for about 15 seconds. Fill a collins glass with ice cubes and add gin mixture. Top with sparkling water.
