Choo Choo Bar-B-Que

By Pam Greer Leave a Comment

A review of Choo Choo Bar-B-Que on Hixson Pike in Chattanooga, TN.

Pork plate at Choo Choo Bar-b-que

We finally made it into the new Choo Choo Bar-B-Que on Hixson Pike.  We had visited them at their old location, just a few buildings over, and watched the building of their new location.  When you walk in, you place your order at the counter and then they bring the food to you.  We were there on a Thursday evening around 6 and the restaurant was about half full.

Our food arrived in about 5 minutes.  The pork was nicely smoked, since I prefer my meat with no sauce, I like the subtle flavor of the meat.  The cole slaw and beans were both pretty basic.  The Texas toast was nice and buttery.

The star of the show was my husband’s fried potatoes.  They were excellent, tasted like the kind grandma used to make!  So good.

Choo Choo Bar-b-Que sauces

They had 3 kinds of sauces at the table: Hot Hickory, Hickory Smoked and Sweet Carolina.  The Hot Hickory sauce was not too hot and not too sweet, very nice.

My only complaint was that there was no music playing.  I’ve never really paid attention to music in restaurants, but when it’s not there, you definitely notice.  It was weirdly quiet, with voices from other tables easily carrying over the restaurant.  Please add some music!
