On a recent trip to California, we were looking for a place to stay near Calistoga, California. We like choosing quirky hotels, so The Sunburst Hotel in Calistoga sounded like just the stay we were looking for. There is a main drag through town and this hotel is a little bit on the outskirts. I believe that they had a shuttle which takes you into town, but after driving all day, we felt like the walk might be good for us. We loved the hotel at first glance with it’s old school charm. It looks like one of those motels you would see dotting the roads, and it probably was.
The bedroom was cute. Very minimally decorated. Everything looked new. The bed was comfortable. I did have an issue with how bright the room is at night. There are just regular blinds on the windows and they let in plenty of light from the parking lot. I need a fairly dark room to sleep, so this was not good.
The bathroom was nicely decorated in black and white. I did make a note though that it was lacking in shelf space. There is one tiny shelf above the sink. We ended up placing all our toiletries on the floor. It also could have used a few hooks on the wall.
Since we were there in the fall, it was cold and we didn’t use the pool. All in all in a was a good place to stay, my biggest complaint would have to be how light the room was at night.
