Rib & Loin

By Pam Greer Leave a Comment

Rib & Loin Chattanooga TN

It’s been years since we have eaten at Rib & Loin in Hixson, and I am sorry to say, it will probably years before we do it again.  I had been craving barbecue, but I was really busy at home editing photos, so I needed something to go.  There were a couple of places closer, but from their web pages it looked like they were closed on Sundays, so Rib & Loin was chosen.

Rib & Loin Pork Plate

When I first opened the to-go box it looked promising, but as soon as I lifted the paper cover, I was immediately disappointed.  I know this may sound weird, but I don’t like barbecue sauce on my barbecue.  I prefer just the taste of the meat with the smokey flavor.  So, to find sauce all over my pork was not a good thing.  I have never had this happen before, every other place I’ve tried serves it on the side, so I didn’t think to as for the sauce on the side.

I tried to pick around the sauce, to get the flavor of the pork.  It was bland.  The pork was very finely shredded and very lean.   There were no brown bits, or crusty ends, or smoke rings.  It had a very manufactured flavor and texture.

The cole slaw was mayo based and pretty basic.

Even more than the pork, I was disappointed in the Texas toast.  I adore Texas toast.  The Texas toast that I adore is crispy and buttery, but fluffy on the inside.  This was not that kind of Texas toast.  Only one side was toasted and it was completely dry.  I don’t even want to call it toasted because the texture was more like the crust on storebought white bread.  It was not crispy, it was not buttery, it was the most boring piece of Texas toast I have ever eaten.  I ate two bites of it and decided it wasn’t even worth the calories.

The only redeeming food were the beans.  They were sweet and flavorful.

Will eat there again, only if we have no other options.
