Dining Out in Chattanooga | Simply Savory Events Cafe

A review of Simply Savory Events Cafe – an adorable restaurant in Hixson, TN.

Simply Savory Events - Hixson, TN

When a friend asked to meet for lunch, I knew just where I wanted to go.  Simply Savory Events Cafe in Hixson, TN.  It sounded like the perfect place for ladies to do lunch and it was!  As soon as you pull into the parking lot, you know you are in for a treat.  It is in an old building across from a railroad track.  It was originally a general store and had been added on to.  We later learned that all of the businesses in the building are owned by women.

When you walk into Simply Savory Events Cafe, you immediately notice that it is adorable!  There are about 4 tables, all complete with vintage furniture, linens and tableware.  As a lover of all things vintage and antique, I was in heaven.  We settled at a table with a vintage rose tablecloth with jadeite salt, pepper and sugar shakers on a cake plate in the center.

They are open for lunch and have a small, but everything you could possibly want menu.  I settled on the Trio Salad Plate which came with a side and I chose the fresh fruit salad and my friend had the Croissant Sandwich with chicken salad and as her side the broccoli salad.

My trio salad plate was wonderful.  The chicken salad was all white meat and complete with grapes.  It was light on the dressing which is how I like it.  The egg salad was also good as was the pimento cheese.  I probably could have made a meal of the pimento cheese and crackers.  My salad plate came with a side, which was kind of odd, because it really didn’t need one.  I chose the fruit salad at it was fresh fruit in a light poppyseed dressing – also good.  Everything was seasoned perfectly.

My friend loved her chicken salad on a croissant sandwich.  She especially liked that the chicken salad was all white meat.  She also loved her broccoli salad – with broccoli, raisins, bacon and pecans.  Like me, she likes hers light on the dressing letting the flavors shine through.  We also admired the pretty plates.

When we walked in we noticed the soup of the day and the desserts on the chalkboard.  While we were eating, I think we were both saving room for some of that pie.  She ordered the blueberry peach butter pie and I ordered the peach amaretto butter pie.

The pies were wonderful!!  They were creamy, but not like a custard.  It reminded me more of the consistency of a panna cotta.  We kept taking small bites trying to figure out how to make them at home.  They were that good!

After lunch, I walked around and took a few photos of the cute decor in the restaurant.

If you are wondering about the name Simply Savory Events Cafe – they are also a catering company.  They started out as a catering company and then branched out to include this cute lunch time cafe.  The restaurant also offers chicken casseroles, beef casseroles, and vegetarian casseroles available for pick-up from the self serve refrigerator.

They also offer a traditional English afternoon tea for $15 a person.  This includes a pot of tea, 4 assorted finger sandwiches, a scone with clotted cream, orange marmalade and lemon curd, and two assorted mini desserts!  Doesn’t that sound like fun?

If that wasn’t enough, on the first Friday of the month they have Pickin’ and Dinner at 6:30pm.  You are encouraged to bring your lawn chairs, appetites and instruments.

I loved this place, the atmosphere is cute and homey and the food is excellent.  I will definitely be back!
