Eating Out in Chattanooga | Ron’s Pig Out

By Pam Greer 1 Comment

Ron's Pig Out - eating out in Chattanooga | Grey is the New Black

A couple of weekends ago, we were all set to go downtown and grab something to eat for our weekly restaurant reviews.  However, being an incredible weather wimp, I was checking all three weather apps on my phone and they were calling for thunderstorms.  I don’t do thunderstorms.  So, we decided to try something out our way.  Ron’s Pig Out is located at 8615 Hixson Pike, in the north Hixson/Dallas Bay area.

It is located in a small shopping center along with a church.  When you walk in, you seat yourself.  There are two rooms with a nice assortment of tables and booths.  We choose a booth in the first room close by the register.  The  menus are at the table and as we began to look, a waitress came up and took our drink orders.  The tea was nice and sweet, just like I like it.

The menu has the standard barbecue items, and we settled on the BBQ Pork Plate – because when a restaurant is called Pig Out, you have to try the pig.   You get a choice of two sides.  I went with the classic potato salad and cole slaw and Mr. Grey went for baked beans and fried okra.

Everything was so good and the portions were just the right size, generous, but not overly so.  Mr. Grey thoroughly enjoyed his beans and okra and my potato salad and cole slaw were perfect.  The pork was smokey and delish!  You could see the smoke ring and there was a good blend of tender pulled meat and crispy smokey bits.  I’m kind of strange in that I don’t use any sauce on my meat, so I really judge a meat by it’s pure flavor – and this was good.  Mr. Grey had the hot sauce and said that it was flavorful and hot, but not overly hot.

We were too full at the end, but I really wanted to try the cheesecake in a jar!  I love desserts in a jar and make them all the time at my food blog, Sidewalk Shoes.   We will definitely go back and I will try the desserts!
