A review of Five in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
After finishing a photo session at Renaissance Park on a Saturday afternoon at 5:30, we headed over to Five. Since it was still early, we were able to be seated at a table with good light. Maria sat us and made sure that we had plenty of light and were comfortable. She checked back with us several times and I learned that she was the General Manager.
As estate sale fanatics who have 8 chandeliers hanging in their garage, we were immediately in love with the decor. Chandeliers were hanging everywhere. It was lovely. Every inch of the walls were covered in art work, which is also my style! It was as if someone decorated the restaurant just for me. I loved it!!
Our server arrived almost immediately and informed us that we still had some time for happy hour. So, a cocktail order was placed. I had the Pineapple Jalapeno Margarita and the hubs had the Old Fashioned. The Pineapple Jalapeno Margarita was perfect! The pineapple gave it a bit of sweetness and their was this subtle kick of heat. It was so good, that after he finished his old fashioned, the hubs ordered one. He told our server that he liked it spicy, so they gave his jalapeno a little extra muddle. Our server even came back to check later to make sure that it was spicy enough.
I ordered the Crabcakes which were the Saturday feature. They were perfect. Light and moist on the inside, with plenty of crab, and crispy on the outside. The citrus beurre blanc balanced the sweetness of the crab. The sauteed brussels sprouts were golden brown. The salad was lettuce, goat cheese, cranberries, celery and walnuts. I ate every single bite of everything on my plate. The proportions were just right.
The hubs ordered the Gulf Coast Platter, which he said was great. I wouldn’t know since he didn’t share any of it with me! It was grilled shrimp, the catch of the day, crabcakes, rice pilaf and a vegetable medley. While he loved everything, he commented that the vegetable medley was especially nice with red bell peppers.
At the end of the meal our server tried to tempt us with the white chocolate bread pudding, which sounded tempting, but we were too full!
We will definitely be back. The chicken ‘n’ waffles on the Sunday Jazz Brunch is definitely calling to me!
