Last weekend since my husband was on-call, we decided to go out for lunch instead of dinner. The odds were better that he wouldn’t get called at lunch. I knew just what I was in the mood for, the fried catfish at Boathouse Rotisserie and Raw Bar.

We arrived on a Saturday at 12:15. We were offered outdoor or indoor seating. I get cold very easily, so I wasn’t sure about outside, but the hostess assured me that it was warm enough out there. It was, the heaters they had running kept it nice and toasty warm out there and the view was beautiful and relaxing.
One of the specials was catfish tacos, which sounded wonderful, but I still had my eyes on the fried catfish. I had the fried catfish once before and it is the stuff dreams are made of. The catfish is lightly breaded in cornmeal. So light that it doesn’t even feel like breading, it feels like it’s part of the catfish, and completely allows the catfish to shine.

As much as I love the catfish, I love the olive fries just as much. They are skin on fries, fried in olive oil, and they are amazing. Perfectly crisp and oh so flavorful. The cole slaw that comes with the meal is also unusual, the cabbage is thinly sliced and I believe that I picked up some sesame oil in the dressing. The cocktail sauce had fresh grated horseradish on top and even the bread was from a country loaf with nice big holes and a nice chewy crust. Every single part of this meal was wonderful!
There is so much to love about this restaurant from the food to the view. The wait staff is very attentive and I love that they leave a water carafe at your table.

I’m interested in the use of olive oil for fries. Some say olive oil can’t be heated to a high enough temp. and others say it’s a challenge and results in much better and more healthful fries. Those look wonderful.
