While in Calistoga, we stayed a little motel just outside of the main street of town and walked into town to look for a place for dinner. We walked up and down the main street, which was quaint and filled with small boutiques and little touristy stops. We decided to eat at the Calistoga Restaurant and Brewery even though we weren’t staying at the Calistoga Inn. The restaurant is very nicely decorated with lots of oak and has an elegant homey feel to it. It was fall and there were pumpkins and other fall decor around the restaurant.
My husband ordered the Napa River Brown Ale and enjoyed it. It looks like there is a lovely patio that runs along the back of the restaurant, but it was too chilly to think about eating out there.
My husband ordered the short ribs on a bed of swiss chard and mashed potatoes. The short ribs were very tender and flavorful. It was comfort food at it’s finest. And speaking of comfort food, the rosemary bread was amazing!
I had the steak frites. The steak was perfectly cooked and covered in onions so caramelized it was almost like a sweet barbecue sauce. The fries were thin and crispy with cheese grated on top, I didn’t really pick up any garlic though.
For dessert we decided on a cup of coffee and to share a fall fruit crisp. The apples were tender, the oats were crispy and sweetened with brown sugar. It was topped with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. It came in about a 5-6 inch ramekin, making it perfect for sharing.
All in all in was a very nice meal!
