Our hotel that we stayed at in Santa Barbara, Hotel Indigo, did not offer a breakfast, so we wandered just a short ways away to Sambo’s On the Beach. This was the original Sambo’s restaurant opened in 1957! It is still family owned, now by the grandson of the original owner!

We were seated immediately and brought coffee and the complimentary muffins! I have to say that I give big kudos to complimentary muffins – it’s a nice touch. We both ordered the biscuits and gravy which came with two eggs and a small cup of fruit. I ordered my eggs over easy and they were cooked a little bit too much to my liking – there was hardly any runny yolk at all. The biscuits and gravy were okay. The fruit cup was nice. The coffee was good.
Overall, it was about what you would expect, nothing outstanding, but certainly adequate. The muffins, again, were a nice touch, and the whole history and atmosphere of the place count for something.

Kinda fun to visit somewhere that has been up and running since 1957 and I’m all about those complimentary muffins for sure! 🙂
