The Mai Tai is a classic for a reason. The yummy rum cocktail will make you feel like you’re on a tropical island!
If you are my friend on Facebook, you know that this past weekend I made Homemade DIY Chocolate Liqueur, Homemade Grenadine (link coming soon) and have a Homemade Hazelnut Liqueur (link coming soon) that will be ready on Wednesday. We were so impressed with our homemade grenadine that we just had to use it in a cocktail ASAP. So, we chose one of our favorites, a classic Mai Tai.
I mean, who doesn’t love a cocktail that uses two different kinds of rum! We used Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum for our light rum.
We used Gosling’s Black Seal Black Rum for our dark rum. Those two rums combined with our homemade grenadine and homemade orgeat made the best mai tai ever! Another thing that made this drink so good were our new stainless steel drinking straws! We bought them just because we thought they looked nicer than plastic and it would save on trash and the environment and all that other good stuff. But what we didn’t realize was how good they worked. When placed in the glass with the ice, they got cold and stayed cold! So, you drink your cocktail through this frosty straw – bonus! I also found some maraschino cherries that I highly recommend – they have no red dye, no high fructose corn syrup, preservative free and gluten free!
- 40 ml light rum
- 20 ml dark rum
- 20 ml Cointreau
- 15 ml orgeat syrup
- 20 ml lime juice
- 15 ml grenadine
- Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Add ice cubes until the liquid is covered. Shake vigorously until shaker is cold. Strain into collins glass over ice. Add a Maraschino cherry for decoration.
