Back from vacation and it’s back to cocktails every Tuesday! I know it’s a hard job, but someone has to do it!. We continue to work away through our various cocktail books. One of our favorites, is a 200 Cocktails: Hamlyn All Colorby Hamlyn. It’s a nice, small, but fairly thick book with a photo of every cocktail recipe. I really like it when books give a photo, even though ours doesn’t necessarily look like them, it gives us something to shoot for!
There are two versions of this cocktail – The Pink Clover Club and The Clover Club. The Clover Club omits grenadine and adds a splash of simple syrup. We got around to reading the back of the grenadine bottle and were not at all thrilled with the ingredients – basically high fructose corn syrup and red dye! We will be trying to make our own, so stay tuned for that!
This was a simple cocktail, letting some good gin really shine.
Clover Club
- ice cubes
- juice of 2 limes
- splash of sugar syrup
- 2 egg whites
- 6 measures gin
- strawberry slices for garnish (we didn’t have any)
Put 8-10 ice cubes in a cocktail shaker and add the lime juice, sugar syrup, egg whites and gin. Shake until a frost forms on the outside of the shaker. Strain into two martini glasses and garnish with strawberry slices.
