A review of Clyde’s on Main in Chattanooga, TN.
While scoping out the location for a photo session on the Southside, we ended up right near Clyde’s on Main and decided to give it a try. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is that they have made excellent use of the space. At the front is a place for the band. Along the side is a row of booths, then in the center are large comfy sofa sections, then a row of tables next to the bar and then the bar. In the back, there is a small outdoor area, that I could see ping pong being played and I believe there is also shuffleboard, but I couldn’t see it from my view.
We arrived on a Friday evening at about 5:30. We were seated immediately in a large booth table. By the time we left, it had completely filled up and there were people waiting for tables. Our waitress, Katie, came over immediately and asked us if we had ever been there before. When we said that we hadn’t, she explained the menu and gave suggestions. Very helpful. So many things sounded good, and it was a difficult decision, but my husband chose the Torta Mamacita and I chose the Badass Loaded BLT.
The Badass BLT contains Clyde’s bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, melted white cheddar, Duke’s mayo and house pickles served on thick sliced multigrain bread. The bread was perfectly toasted and the cheese was nice and melty. The bacon and avocado kept it nice and decadent. My only complaint is that I would have liked more pickles and to skip the lettuce entirely. Hot wilted lettuce just really didn’t seem to add anything to the sandwich. The house made salt and vinegar chips were outstanding. I could have made a meal entirely out of them!
I had a bite of my husband’s Torta Mamacita. According to the menu the Torta Mamacita is Smoked chicken, chorizo, pico de gallo, avocado, roasted jalapeno, pickled red onion chipotle crema, lettuce, fresh lime & cilantro on pressed bolillo bread. Served with a side of chile verde salsa. It was beyond amazing!! Everything went together well. It was so fresh and flavorful, with just the right amount of heat. The bread was toasty on the outside, but nice and soft on the inside. Excellent!
Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back. I might try the Torta Mamacita for myself, or the pulled pork dinner.
I love their food. I had the beer cheese chips and the Cuban sandwich if I remember well. Everything was delicious. It’s a very nice place, but usually is very hard to find a table. Both sandwiches sound like something I would enjoy. Hope to go back soon.
