Several years ago, our daughter was passing through Chattanooga on Christmas. We met her downtown at Tony’s Pasta Shop for a Christmas Eve lunch. Since that day, it has become a tradition for us to eat Christmas Eve lunch there. Oh, we eat there other times during the year, but always on make sure and stop by for that special lunch.
We arrived for our Christmas Eve lunch at 11:20 and were seated immediately. We both ordered the Sicilian Salad, a favorite of ours. In my opinion, the star of the restaurant though is the bread. Fresh and warm, with the perfect crispy crust and chewy inside. One large chunks of garlic. It is served with a bowl of olive oil with fresh shredded parmesan cheese in it. I could make a meal of this bread alone. We eat every last bite and have to use every bit of our willpower not to ask for more.
The Sicilian Salad is the perfect accompaniment to the bread. It is a blend of lettuce and orzo, this time a bit heavier on the lettuce. It is dotted with tomatoes, chicken, capers, artichoke hearts and feta, all perfectly balanced. I don’t think we could eat anything heavier with all the bread we consumed.
We enjoyed the view, the salad, the bread, everything.
